In the early months of 2020 the COVID-19 virus, which had originated in Wuhan, China invaded the United States and by May of 2020 there were almost 1.5 million infected with over 100,000 dead from the disease.
Post 178, like all other posts and businesses in South Carolina, was order to temporarily close.
Legion baseball, Boy’s State and Girls State were cancelled as well as conventions and most traveling.
During the lockdown in April and May, American Legion Post 178 Commander Ed Courtney, USMC, along with many volunteers, using a $10,000 grant from the Small Business Administration, took this opportunity to refurbish the post by refinishing the floors, buying new dining room and bar area chairs and upgrading the electrical and sound systems.
